Lead, manage, and supervise a team of social workers and family support workers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement, supporting staff to develop their skills and knowledge.

Ensure team members adhere to statutory guidelines and Reading Borough Council’s policies and procedures.

Monitor and allocate caseloads, ensuring all work is completed in a timely and effective manner.

Provide guidance on complex cases, supporting staff in decision-making and risk assessment.

Oversee the assessment and intervention processes, ensuring that all children and families receive appropriate support.

Ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed rigorously and that risks to children and families are identified and managed appropriately.

Maintain compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks, including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and the Care Act 2014.

Work closely with other teams within Reading Borough Council, as well as external agencies such as health services, schools, police, and voluntary organisations, to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting families.

Represent the team at multi-agency meetings, panels, and strategic discussions, ensuring the best interests of children and families are prioritised.

Use data and performance analysis to drive service improvements and implement best practice models.

Ensure casework is regularly audited and reviewed to maintain high standards of service delivery.

Lead team meetings, training sessions, and reflective practice discussions.

Support staff development through supervision, training, and performance appraisals.

Foster a learning culture within the team, encouraging professional growth and best practice sharing.

A Social Work Qualification or equivalent

Understanding of relevant legislation

Continual professional development

Registration with Social Work England

Broad management experience over a range of professional social care roles with significant experience in managing functions in a number of specialisms, e.g. looked after children, regulated services, children in need
