So, what will you be doing as a Safety Engineer?

As a Safety Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and reliability of complex systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting safety analyses, including Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) in line with established safety processes and standards such as Def Stan 00-056 and IEC61508.
  • Defining safety requirements to ensure that both customer and derived safety targets are met by the system design.
  • Communicating complex safety arguments to internal and external stakeholders, influencing decisions to prioritize safety considerations.
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, well-reasoned safety outputs that enhance the organization’s reputation.
  • Supporting audits, design reviews, and safety committee meetings to ensure compliance with safety standards.

What are we looking for in our next Safety Engineer?

  • Proven experience in delivering and communicating systems safety
  • A degree, HND, or HNC in Engineering, Safety Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in Systems Safety Engineering.
  • Familiarity with international and defence standards such as IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056.
  • Understanding of safety assurance for COTS PE-based systems or high-integrity software.
  • Proficiency in safety and reliability analysis techniques, including hazard identification, FMECA, FTA, and Functional Failure Analysis.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods used in risk assessments and the development of ALARP justifications.
