The Company:

We are proud to be retained by the British Plastics Federation to recruit the role of Standards & Technical Manager for their Pipes Group. The role is a pivotal position helping to drive the development of British, European and international standards for the UK Plastic Pipes Manufacturing Industry and to project manage and support the Pipes Group’s Technical Groups.

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) counts manufacturers, raw material suppliers, equipment suppliers, and plastics recyclers within its broad membership. Recognised worldwide, the BPF comprises 18 different member groups. The Pipes Group represents the UK plastics piping systems industry. They have been representing UK manufacturers of plastics pipes and fittings for over 60 years. The BPF Pipes Group is dedicated to promoting the development, acceptance and usage of manufactured plastic piping systems at all levels in the Building, Construction, Civil and Utilities Industries.

The Pipes Group works closely with other industry experts within the BPF, sharing knowledge and expertise. A key focus of both the BPF and the Pipes Group is plastics sustainability, with exciting opportunities in this arena.

Key Responsibilities:

Standards Duties-

  • Managing Pipes Group input into all relevant Standards (National, European and International), keeping members up to date with opportunities for commenting/voting.
  • Contributing to development of relevant standards (National, European and International), working in conjunction with members.
  • Represent the Pipes Group at National and European standards meetings.
  • Provide UK expertise to European and International standards meetings.

Technical Management duties-

  • Prepare agenda, minutes and supporting papers for technical meetings
  • Prepare objectives and review progress against projects on a regular basis.
  • Oversee the preparation of ‘introductory’ briefs for specific projects and/or sub-groups.
  • Manage the response to technical enquiries from outside of the Pipes Group.
  • Manage the development of technical outputs, drawing on the expertise of members.
  • Ensure members are consulted on draft outputs and comments addressed.
  • Overseeing the technical integrity and sign off of the outputs in line with internal procedures.

Person Profile:

  • Experienced and knowledgeable in the pipes sector (plastics, concrete or cast iron)
  • Working for pipe manufacturing or end-user
  • Experience in dealing at senior level within an organization
  • Qualification level: Graduate
  • Experience in supporting technical committees
  • Have first class administrative and organisational skills
  • Be a skilled project manager
  • Good attention to detail
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills

What Are The Hours And Working Arrangements?

This is a full-time role, with a flexible hours’ policy working from home, office based or hybrid working. There is the requirement to travel to locations abroad (typically eight meetings per year) and across the UK as and when required.
