About the Role

Applications are sought for Research Technician who will provide technical support for the Sharp Group's cancer research projects especially related to BCN and miRNA-RISC biology/projects to enable members to efficiently carry out their research projects. research technician will be based in Professor Tyson Sharp's group as part of the BCN and miRNA-RISC projects and the CCMB's research support team, being mutually supportive and covering duties as necessary during colleagues' absences and at times of additional pressure.

The post holder is expected to actively participate in the CCMB and the Centre's scientific meetings, including lab meetings and journal clubs and lead (with supervision from Pi and PDRAs ) in the bioinformatics of RSIC biology and LIMD1 biology.

About You

Candidates must have BSc or equivalent in a biological or related science. The postholder must also have:

  • Experience of working in a LIMD1 related biomedical research laboratory
  • Experience with computer software relevant to laboratory research, data presentation and statistical evaluation of results
  • Experience of microRNA biology and related experiments and assays.
  • Experience of bioinformation for RNA-seq omics level data.
  • Experience of eCLIP methodology
  • Experience of LIM-domain biology

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics. BCI is committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training.
