Our client, a leader in high-value glasshouse crops, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Agronomist to join its Horticultural Operations team at their cutting-edge glasshouse sites on the south coast of England.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Horticultural Operations, the Senior Agronomist will oversee a team of agronomists, crop technicians, and crop protection operatives, delivering expert management of crop health and production. This critical role ensures optimal plant conditions through precision in climate, fertigation, and husbandry, driving innovation in Integrated Pest Management (IPM), nutrition, and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the site’s agronomy team in the identification, monitoring, and control of pests, diseases, and plant disorders.
Manage the full lifecycle of crop nutrition, including fertigation recipe creation.
Conduct regular crop walking and data analysis to proactively mitigate risks.
Oversee R&D initiatives, driving continuous crop and process improvement.
Ensure audit readiness and compliance with legal and customer standards.
Manage plant intake and liaise with external suppliers for quality assurance.
Promote environmental sustainability through active involvement in the ‘Second Nature’ programme.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will bring:
A minimum of 3 years in a managerial growing or agronomy role.
Proven leadership experience and a strong business-oriented mindset.
Expertise in plant science, IPM, and protected cropping systems.
Qualifications including BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection and a degree in horticulture (or equivalent industry experience).
A proactive, collaborative approach and a passion for driving innovation.
