King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation NHS Trust is currently delivering an ambitious financial efficiency programme with the aim to achieve long-term financial sustainability.
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated MEMS team to provide and develop services across the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) and Orpington or Denmark Hill (DH) sites.
The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) of the department provides a range of services to the Trust. These services include the care of medical electronic and associated devices, training of staff (Medical Equipment Training) to use medical devices and a loan service for medical devices (Equipment Library).
The Medical Equipment Trainer / MERC Supervisor will take responsibility for the management of the three functions located within the Centre; medical equipment training, equipment library and MEMS reception. Specific duties will include:
· Acting as lead medical equipment trainer.
· Developing and leading medical equipment training (MET) within the Trust.
· Developing and leading the equipment library (MEL) service.
· Negotiating for resources to enhance and expand the equipment library (MEL).
· Develop processes and procedures for MET, MEL, and the MEMS reception.
· Manage staff and the day to day of the Medical Equipment Resource Centre (MET/MEL/Reception)., + Provide training on medical devices for Trust staff using a variety of methodologies (didactic training, workshops, e-learning etc).

Ensure that records of training are maintained and report on compliance with medical equipment training across the Trust.

Coordinate and monitor the medical equipment training provided by outside bodies (for example medical device manufacturing companies).

Liaise with medical and nursing staff to develop training competencies and knowledge verification systems for relevant staff at all levels.

Assist in the development of alternative or enhanced methods of training delivery via available media in collaboration with information technology experts.

Visit relevant areas, audit and evaluate local training systems and advice and assist Ward/Department managers to improve or maintain staff training.

Provide input as required to staff induction or ward study day programmes.

Liaise with medical equipment supervisors, educators, and verifiers throughout the Trust.

Ensure effective and timely advertising for all training initiatives to their target audience, using a variety of media.

Ensure training and verification documents exist for each piece of equipment in the Trust and assist in the preparation of these documents.

Provide general administrative support to the training database team (data entry, records archiving, including copying, filing, telephone work etc.) with link to other departmental databases as needed.

Ordering medical devices and accessories on a Trust platform as needed and identified by leadership.

Providing support and coverage to other roles within the team occasionally and as needed.

Providing support, coverage, and travel to the DH site occasionally and as needed.

Regularly assess the state of medical device training in the Trust including any outstanding needs for training. Analysis of Trust, national and international information may be required.

Lead the development of alternative or enhanced methods of training delivery via available media in collaboration with information technology experts.

Coordinate and organise meetings, prepare agendas and papers for meetings, take and transcribe formal minutes.
