The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.
The successful applicant will have daily patient contact with elective and inpatient cardiology patients. The nurse will be responsible for supporting the patients through the journey within Cath Lab and to relevant internal and external areas as appropriate. The role involves a degree of autonomy but equally the nurse must be able to function well within a multidisciplinary and escalate care appropriately to the co-ordinating nurse or lead cardiology doctor. The role involves a rotation through the department which provides a mix of X ray / laboratory working and accompanying areas such as day case. The nurse will also act as a teacher / mentor and will work collectively and effectively ensuring , workload and workflow are optimal through day . You will need to demonstrate effective time management, assertiveness, compassion, and be a good communicator. The nurse will carry out all relevant forms of patient care, including pre-assessment, cardiac day case, rotation through the cardiac catheter lab and planned rotation through associated cardiac services, working as service needs require. The nurse will work without direct supervision and demonstrate the ability to supervise registered and/or unregistered staff. Once established and independent in the laboratories you will need to provide out of hours availability within 30minutes of Royal Blackburn Hospital to fulfil your on call commitment or be able to make suitable arrangements., 1 ASSESSOR of nursing · Takes nursing history of patients through interviewing and observation, during pre-assessment clinics and in day case unit. · Maintains accurate clinical observations of the patient\’s condition, in pre-assessment, day case and laboratory, which ever area allocated to work in. · Interprets the significance of data to the patient\’s condition and progress. · Identifies and discusses nursing problems or needs with the patients, relatives, and other staff. · Acts as an associate nurse. 2. PLANNER of nursing · Identifies the priorities of nursing care for patients. · Identifies realistic goals in care plans. · Organises time, equipment, and the staff to deliver nursing care. 3. PRACTITIONER of nursing · Gives skilled care to patients and relatives. · Undertakes training and competency in caring for all catheter lab patients. · Can act as scrub assistant for angiograms, pacemakers and with 12 months experience angioplasty. · Can work in all areas of pre-assessment, day case and the lab., caring for patients with pacemaker implantations, cardiac angiograms, angioplasty and care for their arterial puncture sites. · Administers drugs and treatments as prescribed, with safety, accuracy, and intelligence within the Trust Policies. · Communicates effectively with patients, their relatives, and co-workers with adherence to information governance policies, GDPR, trust policies and NMC code of conduct. · Liaises with medical, paramedical staff and social workers in the delivery of care. · Assists the senior nurses in ensuring that individual patients are assessed, and that care is planned to meet their moving and handling needs. · May be required to act as a Trainer or Risk Assessor in Moving and Handling. 4. EVALUATOR of nursing · Contributes to the setting of standards for nursing care. · Evaluates the quality of care given to patients. · Measure goal achievements with patients and relatives and co-workers. · Changes care plans and goals, according to evaluation, under the direction of the senior nurses and MDT. · Responsible for the safe nurse led discharge of patients or referral for consultant review should the patient not meet discharge criteria. 5. LEARNERS/RESEARCHER of nursing · Seeks out new knowledge of nursing and health, by reading, enquiring, and partaking in continuing education programmes. · Seeks to develop new skills. · Applies research findings to nursing practice. 6. TEACHER of nursing and health · Assesses the learning needs of patients, relatives, and staff (including learners). · Instructs patients, relatives, and staff (including learners) about nursing. · Demonstrates nursing skills to patients, relatives, and staff (including learners) and support workers. · Reflects on learning experiences with patients, relatives, and staff (including learners). · Assists with assessing the progress of individual learners, junior staff, and support workers. · Advises members of the public on the promotion of health and prevention of illness – promoting ward activity. · Offer recognised training and participate in the training and assessment of support workers. 7. MANAGER of nursing · Assesses work to be carried out. · Organises staff (according to competence), time and equipment for completion of work. · Supervises the delivery and quality of care given. · Praises and corrects team members as appropriate. · Reports and receives reports of work activity. · Assists with the identification of training needs of junior and untrained nursing staff. · Co-ordinates the care given by nurses, medical, paramedical staff and social workers. · Handles complaints by patients, members of the public and staff, in accordance with the Trust\’s Policies. · Assist the senior nurses to maintain safe systems of work, including C.O.S.H.H. and Manual Handling of Loads. 8. PROFESSIONAL PERSON · Abides by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice, e.g., NMC Code of Conduct, IRMER radiation guidelines. · Takes responsibility for personal development and education, including in-service training. · Discusses personal development and progress with senior nurses and manager through internal 1:1and through the KSF framework and personal development plans. · Maintains standards of conduct, to sustain the public confidence in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the Trust Policies. · Encourages clinical supervision for self and staff. Participate in governance activities and audit. Ongoing efforts to maintain and improve standards/quality to provide a safe personal and effective service.

- Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
