OCU Group are looking for an experienced LV Overhead Linesman to join our team covering Yorkshire, Humber and North Lincolnshire.
As an LV Overhead Linesman you are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of power distribution networks by performing a variety of tasks, including line construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response. The role requires technical skills, physical strength, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Duties and Responsibilities
Installation and Maintenance:
- Erect and string overhead power lines.
- Install poles, towers, crossarms, and other support structures.
- Maintain and repair high-voltage and low-voltage overhead lines.
- Work on service diversions, new connections, and fuse upgrades.
Repair Work:
- Diagnose and rectify faults in the electrical distribution system.
- Replace damaged lines, poles, and insulators.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and work procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure safety barriers and warning signs are in place.
Collaboration:
- Work as part of a team, often coordinating with engineers, technicians, and ground crews.
- Communicate effectively to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to outages and emergencies caused by weather events or equipment failure.
- Work in adverse conditions to restore power.
Skills and Experience
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of electrical systems, diagrams, and safety procedures.
Physical Fitness: Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
Problem-Solving Skills: Quick decision-making during emergencies.
Teamwork: Collaborate effectively in a high-pressure environment.
Education: GCSEs in English, Maths, or Science (or equivalent); further qualifications in electrical engineering or similar fields are advantageous.
Experience: Previous experience working as a linesman/jointer in the electrical industry.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Full UK driving license.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., Working at Heights, First Aid).
- Authorisation to work on specific networks (Northern PowerGrid).
- NPG Authorisation codes W3, W3.1, W3.2 & W3.3 (Preferred).
