Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy GP practice based at Acorn Health Centre in Accrington. The role of the Care Navigator is to be the first point of contact for our patients, supporting them to ensure their needs are met by the most appropriate member of our multi professional team. In addition the successful candidates will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person, in writing or via the telephone., Provide a comprehensive reception service for patients and visitors to the practice , responding in a timely and efficient manner to both telephone and face to face service users. Register patients on the electronic patients system (EMIS) and update these records as appropriate. Understand and maintain confidentiality at all times., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

A high degree of accuracy is required in the role as is the ability to work as part of a wider team and on own initiative within practice policy and frameworks.,

  • English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent, Experience of the receptionist role, greeting patients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to manage a high volume of calls whilst maintaining a calm and professional attitude
  • Experience of administrative and clerical tasks

  • Experience of working in General Practice or similar health care setting
  • Experience of using electronic patient records – EMIS, Ability to communicate successfully – both verbal and written across all levels
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office able to use Word, Excel and Outlook to a high standard
  • Able to work as part of a multi disciplinary team
  • Ability to work on own intiative with minimal supervision
  • Good time management and organisational skills, Positive approach to work with the ability to problem solve
  • Willing to undertake any training and development as required by the role
  • A flexible approach to support the practice during times of sickness / annual leave
  • Ability to travel across the PWE footprint to cover other sites as required

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.

The healthcare sector is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary. However, if you are applying for a post as a BANK worker, the payment must be made in full at the time of employment checks. The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £55.38 and for a Standard Disclosure will be £27.38.
