This is an excellent opportunity to develop experience in a broad based team, recognised for providing a real alternative to the City for complex private client matters given the quality of their offering.
The Chambers-rated Private Wealth Team works predominantly with individuals falling into the "high-net-worth" category (which typically refers to those with personal assets totalling £5m-£20m) across the full spectrum of private client matters. This will include, but not be limited to;
-
Lifetime and succession planning.

Advising on the structure of Wills as part of a broader estate planning strategy.

Lasting Powers of Attorney.

The creation, administration, and winding up of trusts.

Estate administration.

Meeting clients on a regular basis to advise on the above.
Desirable skills, experience and attributes
-
Associate with extensive experience of matters including probate, Wills, trusts and tax, CGT work, declarations of trust, court of protection, Deputyships and LPAs

Undertake fee earning work, working both independently, with minimal supervision and as a member of the team.

Maintain existing relations with the firm’s clients and assist and help develop new relationships with third party referrers.

Work closely with other departments within the firm on joint projects.

Participate in the growth and future development of the department, assisting in building the client base and marketing the Firm’s services.

Comply with the Firm’s policies in the carrying out of duties and to assist Partners and other fee earners in achieving a smooth output of work.

Achieve agreed financial targets, both in respect of fee income and the recording of chargeable hours.

Adhere to all FJG policies, procedures and requirements – this includes maintaining the client database and following compliance regulations

Keep legal knowledge up to date and continue personal and professional development
The private client team is a critical part of the firm’s business and the work undertaken by the team represents a significant % of the firm’s turnover.
Representative cases include:

Working closely with a wealthy local family to assist them with succession and tax planning over many generations

Advising a long-standing client on the inheritance tax aspects on the reorganisation of his fund management business to enable new talent to be incentivised and brought into the business

Dealing with a complex international probate where the deceased had assets in the UK, Portugal and Thailand.

Working alongside a very successful entrepreneur (net wealth £250m+) to consider a complex trust history for part of the business and whether this structure should be revised in light of current circumstances.

Advising on generational estate and trust planning for landed estate clients.

A significant volume of the work is for HNWI so any previous experience advising related clients would be an advantage.
You can expect to advise a number of family offices and international families as to their ongoing affairs and international trust structures, including private trust company structures.
You can also expect to work closely with a number of business families advising on existing structures set up for the management and governance of the family business, its interaction with family trusts and associated estate planning measures.
We are seeking an individual with solid experience (Min 1-5 PQE) preferably in general succession and tax planning, estate administration, and trusts work – more senior individuals will also be considered.
