As a member of the Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation team, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive and integrated ward based pharmacy service:

  • To check patient’s own medication brought into hospital are safe and suitable for use whilst an in-patient and record them on the electronic medicines prescribing system.

  • To dispense medication at ward level to ensure a safe and timely supply of medicines to the patient to support discharge.

  • Ensure supplies of all medicines are available on the ward to ensure no missed doses by ordering medicines on the electronic medicines prescribing system.

  • Support the training and development of Pharmacy Support Workers, Trainee Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians, Trainee Pharmacists and Foundation Pharmacists.

The Pharmacy operates a 7 day service and as part of the role you will be expected to participate in the evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working rotas.

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust Pharmacy Department have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Support Worker Higher Level to join the friendly, supportive and welcoming Medicines Optimisation team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed individual to work with the multidisciplinary team to help and support us take the ward based Pharmacy service forward.

Applications are invited from all suitably qualified pharmacy assistants with NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent, including those who work in a community pharmacy as full medicines optimisation training will be provided for the role. We actively support the training and development of our staff. This is an excellent opportunity to further your pharmacy career and move into secondary care.

The applicant should possess outstanding communication, organisational and prioritising skills, and have excellent attention to detail. This post will be primarily based at Dewsbury Hospital, but the applicant must also be able to work flexibly across all 3 sites -Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract. This may involve early/late finishing times to meet the needs of patients and support the efficient delivery of the service.
