An opportunity has arisen for a Competitions Operations Administrator to join our Player Experience team on a Fixed Term basis.

The Role:

We are looking for a Competitions Operations Administrator to join our Competitions team tosupport the planning, implementation, administration and operational delivery of RFU community rugby competitions and related projects. This is a key role, leading the administrative functions needed to support competition delivery as well as managing special projects and events to support those competitions from time to time, ensuring that all aspects of each area are delivered to the highest standards. The role holder will need to provide high levels of customer service and have day to day relationships with an array of stakeholders across the team, wider RFU and externally, including but not limited to RFU Council and Committee members, Clubs, Schools and other volunteers/partners.

The Team:

The Competition Operations Team is made up of a manager and two other experienced administrators who deliver priority RFU Men’s, Women’s & Age-Grade cup and league competitions across the country. These competitions include but are not limited to: Continental Tyres Schools Cup, Boys & Girls National Clubs Cups and the County Championships. There is support required for the RFU Men’s and Women’s league structures working with volunteer organisers as well as RFU staff. Work is typically homebased, with quarterly team meetings across the country, as well as event delivery responsibilities across the country. There are also occasional dates requiring travel to Allianz Stadium.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Provide administration and operational support for day-to-day delivery for each priority competition, project and stakeholder group, supporting direct team, volunteer teams and committees as required, including any support for reviews of these competitions.
  • Support regulation administration and application, including advising and educating stakeholders
  • Work with the other administrators to maintain levels of service during peak workload periods within the team, contributing to a high-quality experience.
  • Have specific responsibility for preparing, producing and circulating to all participants and stakeholders the appropriate documentation (fixtures, regulations, contact lists, briefing documents, etc.), maintaining systems, processes and databases, always ensuring accuracy, collecting competition and event feedback collating dates, results and chasing missing information, etc.
  • Manage and deliver rugby events for community rugby competitions
  • Establish effective and strong relationships with all partners whether staff, commercial or voluntary who are involved in the competitions or projects and assist in volunteer recruitment for local projects
  • Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic, business and operational plans.
  • Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience of working in a customer facing role, providing guidance and support.
  • Strong experience in an administrative role with a good aptitude to work with figures, budgets and spreadsheets and ideally with some experience in sport competition/development/rugby or other similar areas (e.g. charitable sector, agency)
  • Experience of working with multiple organisations at the same time across different levels.
  • Project coordination experience on a national or regional scale.
  • Confidence and experience in dealing with a wide range of people and building relationships across organizations with diverse priorities, working in multi-functional teams and communicating effectively.
  • Demonstrable team working & relationship building experience, including with volunteers
  • Strong organisational skills, keen attention to detail and a flexible customer orientated approach. With experience of working in a deadline driven environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills including report writing and delivering effective demonstrations.
  • IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable:

  • Degree level education or higher.
  • Competent in the use of Smartsheet.
  • An interest in sport and rugby.
  • Recent / relevant experience of the rugby environment / strong practical understanding of the rugby / sporting landscape in England.
