Calleydown is a residential short break care home for children with learning disabilities aged 5 to 18 years. Some children have associated physical disabilities with total care needs, and some exhibit challenging behaviour.
Part of Croydon’s Services for Children with Disabilities Team, Calleydown is located in New Addington, Croydon.
We are seeking a residential worker with childcare experience. Applications from both male and female workers are welcome.
Applicants should understand the additional needs of children with disabilities and be willing to provide care and support tailored to these needs. The key responsibilities include supporting and caring for children and young people, facilitating fun, development, and learning opportunities, and promoting positive outcomes. You will work as part of a team under a shift manager, requiring excellent communication, child-focused approach, good organizational skills, adaptability, and flexibility.
Additional skills include maintaining the home, household tasks, completing children’s records, and computer skills for record-keeping. Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and conducting permissible physical interventions is required.
The role involves working on a rota pattern, including 2-10 pm and 7 am – 3 pm shifts, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties. An enhanced DBS check is mandatory.
Applicants without NVQ or Diploma Level 3 in Children and Young People will need to complete training within the first two years of employment.
