Springwood is a large primary age Special School (360 pupils aged 5 11) based over a number of sites, which caters for pupils with moderate, severe and complex needs. Springwood is now part of the Link Education Trust.

Pupils who are Nursery – Y2 age attend our Craig Hall Site in Irlam, those who are Y2-Y6 attend our site in Swinton. Additionally, we have a small group of pupils based at our Summerville, Grosvenor Road and Belvedere sites.Depending on pupil need and peer group, the decision is made annually as to which site pupils are based at.

Despite being split across four sites, the school is a cohesive learning environment with the same provision and expectations across the whole school. Staff work collaboratively across all sites and the Leadership Team are responsible for all sites, although each member of staff does have a specified main base.

About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join a large and lively school and be part of its future developments. The successful candidate will predominately be based at our Swinton site but may on occasions be asked to work from any of our other school sites.

The role does require the occupational evening and weekend work. Within the week the hours of working are 12.30pm- 8pm, but must be flexible to fit the needs of the service.

As a School Caretaker, this role is crucial in ensuring that the school environment remain safe, functional, and conducive to learning.

The main duties include:

Under the guidance of the Facilities Manager to identify and carry out all maintenance, repair and health and safety tasks throughout the school and to ensure that the premises are safe, secure and fit for purpose.

To ensure the school remains secure and ready for use and to be responsible for the hydrotherapy pool maintenance as and when required.

To act as the key holder and be responsible for the security of the building.

Ensuring the safe supervision of extended services and agencies using the school buildings and facilities outside of the general school hours.

Support and report to the Facilities Manager on day to day project management.

To ensure proper use of premises and resources by occupants of the building.

To support the Site Manager to check all security, alarm and surveillance equipment, resetting alarms and reporting faults to alarm companies.

To contribute to the annual cleaning program.

To ensure that all areas within the site boundary, i.e. playground, toilets paths, car park, are kept clean, tidy and free from rubbish and litter.

To ensure safe disposal of rubbish and waste material as per the Disposal policy.

Ensure bin collection is maintained weekly and keep the area tidy and clean.

Make sure the gates are opened and locked at appropriate times. Where appropriate check the Automated gates are on the correct time schedule. Padlock gates open.

To prepare and tidy rooms/halls for meetings, assemblies and other activities.

To support the Site Manager to regular planned visual inspection of electrical equipment as per schedule.

To clean areas soiled by pupils.

Site Office, garage and store cupboard is to be kept clean and tidy.

Check that paper towels/soap/toilet rolls, wipes are replenished daily and order stocks when required.

Contribute to the planning and development of the Schools 5 year building plan in conjunction with the SBM.

Where appropriate attend Site Meetings

Take delivery of goods, moving and lifting duties.

To undertake all duties in a courteous professional manner.

Ensure safe access and egress of pupils through supervision of transport after school.
