Balfour Beatty is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join our dynamic Power Transmission & Distribution business unit. Central Hub: Derby. Project Site: Bramford. Hybrid working patterns available.
Role Overview
The Senior Planner leads the development and management of complex construction project schedules, ensuring optimal resource utilization and adherence to timelines. This role provides strategic planning oversight, mentorship to less experienced planners, and contributes to project success through advanced scheduling techniques. The scope includes high-level project planning and coordination, playing a key role in achieving efficient and successful construction outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure programme content complies with planning procedures and guidance.
- Identify planning scope, major constraints, contract requirements, and factors affecting the project.
- Develop and agree on strategic and optimized sequences and methodologies for tendering, ensuring the implementation of efficient design, procurement, and construction strategies.
- Produce comprehensive planning deliverables, including programs, philosophies, presentations, and reports, with a focus on precision and strategic insight.
- At the contract stage, ensure meticulous production, management, and maintenance of the Contract Programme, collaborating closely with the Planning/Project Lead.
- Display and evaluate the project critical path, advise on corrective actions, and manage project baselines and change control processes.
- Manage labour, equipment, and materials efficiently to meet project objectives while minimizing costs.
- Manage contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, monitor performance, and resolve issues.
- Provide strategic planning oversight and mentorship, fostering a collaborative environment and developing less experienced planners.
- Assist in producing project data and KPIs to track progress, identify deviations, and support data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency with project management tools like Excel, MS Project, Primavera P6, or ASTA.
- Deep understanding of construction project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Expertise in project scheduling and planning, including managing complex schedules.
- Knowledge of tender and contract documents, specifications, and risk management in project programmes.
- Experience in managing construction programmes for complex projects and leading planning efforts successfully.
- Strong communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
