We are seeking an Optical Engineer/Scientist to join our Spectacles team. In this role, you will:
- Utilize in-house optical design tools for developing new AR displays.
- Support the creation of novel optical design software for analyzing advanced systems.
- Contribute to designing AR waveguides for high-volume, low-cost production.
- Develop optical structures to improve AR waveguide performance.
- Incorporate data from physical measurements into models.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement waveguide designs.
- Create detailed design models and documentation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Physics-based design and optimization experience.
- Proficiency in Python for computation and optimization (e.g., scipy, scikit-optimize, jax).
- Experience scripting with simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, MEEP).
- Strong organization and planning skills for high-risk R&D projects.
- Ability to deliver on short timelines.
- Excellent communication and reasoning skills.
- Team-oriented with a proactive attitude.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering.
- Relevant industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Git codebases.
- Knowledge of optical modelling techniques (FDTD, RCWA/FMM).
- Understanding of optical raytracing, polarization analysis, and optics fundamentals.
- Background in optical metrology and nanophotonics manufacturing techniques.
We offer a competitive salary (£64,000 – £80,000), equity in RSUs, and a supportive benefits package including parental leave, medical coverage, and mental health support. This role requires working in our office 4+ days a week, aligned with our \’Default Together\’ policy.
