Job Description:
A Private Permanent Chef/Cook is required to manage the cooking and kitchen in a large private household on a rural estate. This full-time weekend position involves working Thursday to Sunday, with occasional travel to Scotland in August, and working over Easter and Christmas. The role requires a passionate, friendly cook who enjoys seasonal cooking, using garden produce, and working with household staff. You should be comfortable working with children and dogs.
Responsibilities include:
- Sourcing ingredients and liaising with suppliers
- Using garden produce for meals
- Maintaining pantry stocks
- Preparing and serving meals for family and guests
- Ensuring food hygiene standards
- Managing menus, dietary requirements, and wine stocks
- Working with household staff and relief cooks
- Managing waste and recycling
- Preserving garden produce for later use
Additional duties:
- Record keeping of purchases and invoices
- Maintaining positive relationships with staff and suppliers
- Flexibility and teamwork
- Deputising for the House Manager when needed
- Security responsibilities
Kitchen and household maintenance:
- Keeping the kitchen clean and equipment in good order
- Supporting household tasks such as guest transport, parcel acceptance, and contractor access
Salary: £40,000-£50,000 depending on experience. A 3-bedroom cottage is provided rent-free, with utilities paid by the employer. A valid driver\’s license is required due to rural location. Partner, family, and pets are welcome.
