Job Description
Top Tier Scottish law firm are looking to hire an Associate/ Senior Associate to join their highly successful Restructuring and Insolvency team- this role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow and hybrid-working is also on offer.
Role Profile:
- The role will involve work on distressed M&A, restructurings, enforcements, insolvencies and advisory work for boards of distressed companies and clients will include corporates, lenders, insolvency practitioners and law firms.
- You will work closely with clients, lenders, administrators, and other stakeholders to deliver strategic solutions during times of financial distress, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation while protecting client interests.
- Advise on corporate restructuring, business turnaround strategies, and formal insolvency processes (administration, liquidation, CVAs, schemes of arrangement, etc.).
- Act for a range of stakeholders, including creditors, debtors, insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, directors, and shareholders.
- Draft and negotiate restructuring agreements, security documents, and insolvency-related contracts.
- Conduct legal due diligence on distressed assets and businesses.
- Liaise with insolvency practitioners, regulators, and other advisors to coordinate complex matters.
- Provide strategic risk assessments and contingency planning advice.
- Represent clients in contentious insolvency proceedings, including asset recovery, director disqualification, and cross-border enforcement.
- Keep abreast of developments in insolvency law, case precedents, and regulatory changes.
- Support business development by maintaining strong client relationships and contributing to marketing initiatives.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with 5+ years’ PQE in restructuring & insolvency law.
- Strong technical knowledge of insolvency legislation, restructuring frameworks, and relevant case law.
- Experience advising across both corporate and personal insolvency matters.
- Skilled in managing both contentious and non-contentious insolvency work.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
- Ability to manage multiple matters under tight deadlines.
- Experience working on cross-border insolvency matters.
- Established network within the insolvency and restructuring community.
- Track record of client development and relationship management.
