2nd Line Support Engineer

Security Clearance Required – DV (\’Developed Vetting\’)
Location: 80% On-Site in Huntingdon, UK

We are seeking a passionate individual with a background in infrastructure and operational support services. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, capable of working independently to meet daily objectives, and able to deliver significant results on projects or operational tasks. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with project milestones, KPIs, and SLAs, engaging effectively with customers and colleagues, and applying an analytical approach to technical challenges.

The preferred candidate will have extensive knowledge of various technologies such as Linux (Ubuntu / CentOS), Microsoft Windows Server (including AD, DNS, DHCP), virtualization (Hyper-V), Microsoft Stack (SharePoint, SQL Server, Skype for Business / Teams), networking, and storage.

Your Role and Responsibilities

This role offers exposure to both project-based and operational support activities, including remote and on-site support, as well as out-of-hours on-call support. You will contribute to creating and maintaining technical documentation to support project and operational activities.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of Virtualized Environments such as VMware and Hyper-V; VMware Horizon experience is an advantage.
  • Strong expertise in Windows Server environments (2008-2022), Windows 10 & 11, AD, DNS, DHCP, and GPO.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration (Ubuntu / CentOS).
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, networking technologies, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft technologies such as SharePoint, Skype for Business / Teams, MS SQL, System Center, Office365, SCCM, SCOM, Power BI, MS Exchange, and CLI tools like PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of SAN storage technologies and 2-factor authentication.
  • Experience with scripting and ownership of complex incident resolution.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Experience with helpdesk ticketing systems.
  • ITIL Foundation certification or higher.
