What is a Cover Supervisor?
A Cover Supervisor plays a vital role in maintaining continuity of learning when a teacher is unexpectedly absent. Their primary responsibility is to lead pre-prepared lessons-ensuring students stay on task, behave appropriately, and complete assigned exercises. A successful Cover Supervisor manages classroom behaviour, takes registers, respond to student questions about the material and school routines, and handles any immediate incidents or emergencies following school policies. While you will not be delivering new content, good cover supervisors contribute greatly to the school environment-keeping classrooms focused, safe, and orderly during short-term absences.
About You
– Ideally experienced in classroom settings such as teaching assistant, youth work, or teaching role but any experience working with children will be considered
– Skilled in behaviour management, communication, and building rapport
– Flexible, resilient, and adept at working across multiple sites and schedules
– Committed to safeguarding- enhanced DBS registered on the update service will be required
– \”Get stuck in\” attitude
– Access to own vehicle would be highly beneficial but not essential
