Autism Support – Primary Schools across Leeds

We are currently working with a number of primary schools based across Leeds who are looking for multiple Autism Support Assistants with previous experience working with Autism and other learning needs.

Throughout this role as an autism support, you will be required to support learners on a 1:1 basis in class, and to help within small groups of two to seven learners. The day-to-day support isn\’t just focused on supporting learners academically, throughout the day there will be focus on assisting them with both their social and behavioural needs too.

The aim of this role is to help ensure that both the social and learning aspect of education are made accessible for all learners no matter what needs or challenges they may face.

Within these specific schools, there are several vacancies across the primary year groups but with a particular focus on early years/KS1, however due to the various needs of the children, the ideal candidate would be someone who can work well and be adaptable to children of all ages.

Essential requirements:

  • Previous SEN experience (Autism/Asperger\’s/Down Syndrome)
  • Confident supporting a range of needs, age groups and behaviour
  • Effective classroom management strategies and able to help learners regulate their emotions and behaviour
  • Worked with verbal, pre-verbal and non-verbal communication needs
