A successful Executive Publisher demonstrates the ability to manage and lead a team of Publishers working across a subject area and product market group, to grow and develop their journal portfolio and team as measured against key business metrics, and to launch and participate in strategic initiatives across Scientific Technical Medical Journals (STMJ) or Elsevier more widely.This is a unique opportunity for an experienced publishing professional to lead the development of a prestigious journal portfolio and to create broad market strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and implementing strategic plans for the portfolio, ensuring alignment with both team and broader organizational strategies.
  • Collaborating with editors, authors, editorial boards, society officers and the academic and medical communities to ensure seamless journal operations.
  • Negotiating confidently and managing contractual relationships with journal editors and societies. Maintain and enhance the existing portfolio, keeping pace with external market developments, including the advancement of Open Access, Open Science, AI, ethics-related initiatives.
  • Conducting ongoing quality control and monitor of all editorial, production, and publishing activities, actively address areas requiring improvement.
  • Achieving portfolio-related objectives concerning content growth, market share of articles, citation share, relative impact factor, editorial turnaround times, and satisfaction levels of authors and editors.
  • Managing the editorial fees budget and other overarching processes, including projecting article growth.
  • Demonstrating expertise in data collection, presentation, interpretation, society relations.
  • Establishing, managing, and sustaining strong connections and networks with key external stakeholders, including editors, authors, society representatives, university leaders, and industry professionals, to understand their professional and organizational needs and stay informed on market developments.
  • Establishing, managing, and maintaining excellent relationships with key internal stakeholders, including editorial, production, publishing, marketing, and technology teams, coordinating activities to meet the portfolio\’s needs and support its development.
  • Operating on a high level toward all external journal stakeholders. This is a visible position within a specialized medical community with high expectations for excellence and overall performance.

Requirements

  • Have a university degree with a minimum of 12 years in Publishing.
  • Have a Creative/entrepreneurial/innovative mindset.
  • Display result-oriented and proactive
  • Exhibit a proactive, goal-oriented attitude while proactively contributing to a team.
  • Able to travel for business needs, internationally (25-30%)
  • Have integrity and commitment to the business.
  • Possess excellent commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Display willingness to participate in selective projects.
  • Able to build and manage editorial boards.
  • Excellent networking with key stakeholders.
  • Knowledgeable about technology, social media, and content enhancement in academia.
  • Are fluent in English, written and verbal communication.
