A well-established solar client are looking for a HSE Site Manager for their upcoming large-scale solar farm project in the Kent area. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining health and safety standards across the project sites. This includes ensuring that their company safety standards and CDM regulations are met during the design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor existing and incoming health and safety legislation in the UK to ensure compliance across project sites
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the H&S Management System in line with UK regulations, client requirements, and ISO 45001
- Assess and analyse risks associated with the work schedule and site activities
- Perform gap analyses and define minimum H&S certification standards for employees and subcontractors
- Maintain certification and competence records for all site-based personnel
- Ensure the company\’s health and safety policies are implemented and followed on site
- Evaluate pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) from suppliers and subcontractors
- Review and revise Construction Phase Plans and project-specific H&S documentation
- Review RAMS submitted by internal teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders to ensure suitability
- Conduct regular on-site H&S audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with the Construction Phase Plan and CDM obligations
- Issue corrective and preventive actions and follow up to ensure implementation
- Act as H&S liaison for Principal Designers, client-side H&S managers, and subcontractors
- Lead and support investigations into all incidents, near-misses, and safety observations
- Maintain detailed records of emergencies, incidents, and safety concerns to support continuous improvement
- Manage and issue site-level Permits to Work (PTW), ensuring full compliance
- Support emergency preparedness procedures and ensure the availability and suitability of emergency equipment
- Deliver H&S inductions and training to all contractors and staff on site
- Promote sustainable site practices, including appropriate waste disposal and reduction of environmental impact
- Compile environmental and ESG reports relating to waste, water, fuel use, and verify relevant certifications (e.g. waste carrier licences)
- Assist in maintaining and enhancing HSE policies and procedures in line with CDM, statutory requirements, and industry best practice
Candidate Profile
- Proven hands-on experience in health and safety management on UK-based solar construction sites
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and H&S best practice in the construction industry
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a detail-oriented and practical approach to on-site coordination and compliance
- Capable of using digital tools and reporting systems for H&S documentation and audits
Required Certifications
- NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and/or
- NEBOSH National Construction Certificate
- First Aid Level 3 (Appointed Person)
- CSCS card (Gold or equivalent)
- AQP (Authorised Qualified Person)
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
