Senior HR Officer (10 month fixed-term maternity cover contract) Our client, an education provider in Oxfordshire, is seeking a new member of their HR team to working collaboratively across their Trust of schools. This role is a maternity cover contract and is expected to commence on 3 March 2025 and is expected to continue until 29 November 2025. The role will involve on site school working across Oxfordshire – generally 2 days a week each, at 2 of the secondary schools and one day a week at the primary school, however this will be dependent on the HR needs of the schools and where the HR support is most needed. There is car parking available at each school and you must be able to be onsite. Occasional home working may be considered in school holidays. They may consider part-time working – 3 or 4 days a week. They can also consider term-time only for full-time hours. There are 7 people in the HR team, and the SHRO will report to the HR Manager. Senior HR Officer Responsibilities This Senior HR Officer role will be busy and varied and will include but not be limited to: Supervising 2 HR Assistants and providing comprehensive employee relations and sickness absence support Reviewing and updating policies and procedures and driving values and culture Supporting School Leaders with the coordination of end-to-end recruitment, selection, and interview processes Overseeing onboarding of new staff, ensuring necessary checks and paperwork are completed in an accurate and timely manner Coordinating and checking payroll with the finance team and providing guidance on pension and payroll matters Working with School Leadership on performance development and CPD provision Senior HR Officer Rewards Although this is a maternity cover role, the Trust are committed to developing their staff and will support your career aspirations to prepare you for your next role either within the Trust or elsewhere. Senior HR Officer Experience To be successful in this Senior HR Officer role you will be an experienced schools based HR professional who is looking for a new, challenging and rewarding role, which is critical to ensuring that the schools flourish. In this role, you will work closely with school leaders to help them to retain and attract fantastic staff to deliver a great education for their students. You will have the opportunity to assist with developing the people practices as a Trust, so that they can stand out as an employer of choice in Oxfordshire. You will have previous supervisory experience as you will be supervising the work of 2 HR Assistants, and preferably be CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent) or have solid hands-on UK-based HR work experience in a generalist HR capacity. As this is a maternity cover role, you will need to be able to hit the ground running and so a solid understanding of working in a school HR team is highly desirable. You will be experienced at managing and supporting on ER cases, overseeing payroll to ensure data is accurate, managing sickness and performance, supporting HR Assistants on recruitment when at peak times, etc. Location This is a full-time role with mostly office-based working though there may be some home-working available during non-term-time. This role is based between various schools in Oxfordshire and so it is desirable that you have a full clean UK drivers licence to get to each of the schools. There is car parking available at the school sites. You must have the full right to work in the UK as sponsorship is not available for this position.
