We are seeking a dedicated Mech/Steam/HTHW Engineer to join our team at HMP Chelmsford, a Category B adult/male Prison.

HMP Chelmsford operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. Our Facilities Maintenance Team is committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.
As a Mech/Steam/HTHW Engineer, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference and maintaining a secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS, seeking candidates with:
- At least two years\’ experience as a steam boiler operator or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements.
- Familiarity with BG01 – safe operation of boilers.
- Experience with commercial or industrial steam, heating, and water systems.
- Plumber qualification (C&G 6035, C&G 6189, or NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent).
- BOAS accreditation or equivalent.
- Good Health & Safety knowledge.
- Strong organizational, time management, and people skills.
