Position
Senior Electrical Technician – 3-Year Fixed Term contract at Diamond Light Source, Harwell, Oxfordshire. Salary: £41,414 to £45,510 (discretionary up to £52,337). Reference: 11748. Location: onsite.
About Us
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra‑red to X‑rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences. We are currently undertaking a major upgrade, Diamond‑II, which will combine a new machine and new beamlines with comprehensive upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery, and computing to produce an even more brilliant light source at higher energy.
About The Role
Assist the Senior Electrical Project Engineer in carrying out project upgrades and operations activities related to the accelerator systems of the Diamond facility.
Responsibilities
- Line management of technicians.
- Testing and maintenance of control and instrumentation systems for Injection, RF, diagnostics, and vacuum systems.
- Safety inspections on electrical systems.
- Management of design, manufacture, installation and testing of new front ends, insertion devices and upgrades to existing systems.
- Analysis of failure records, planning of repairs/upgrades during shutdown periods.
- Procuring materials and equipment for workshop activities.
- Supervision of apprentices.
Qualifications
As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will have:
- Completed a recognised Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline, and have a HNC (or equivalent) qualification or demonstrate significant equivalent experience.
- BS7671 Wiring Regulations Qualification or equivalent knowledge.
Experience Required
- HV & LV Electrical systems.
- Using Safe Systems of work, permits, risk assessments, etc.
- Electrical cabling to 18th Edition Wiring Regs.
- Supervising staff.
