Network Manager – Rail
Location: Wednesbury Depot, Potters Lane, Wednesbury, WS10 0AR
Salary: £40,892 – £46,023 Depending upon experience

We are now recruiting for a Network Manager to assume responsibility for providing and maintaining a safe, reliable and efficient operation of the West Midlands Metro network.
You will manage safety critical tasks, maintaining safety critical competencies, including tram driving.
You will lead a team of Network Controllers, providing appropriate training and mentoring to the team to build a professional culture within the Operational Control Centre (OCC).
In addition to this, as our Network Manager you will be responsible for:
- Planning and implementing departmental strategy and policy.
- Managing operational responses to incidents and network disruptions.
- Monitoring weather forecasts and implement adverse weather procedures.
- Ensuring optimal service delivery before, during, and after special events.
- Directing the Network Controller (NC) to maintain service quality in normal and disrupted conditions.
- Reporting serious incidents to the OCC Manager or On-Call Manager.
- Liaising with emergency services, transport operators, and regulatory bodies as required.
- Collaborating with customer services to provide accurate service updates.
- Communicating effectively via phone, radio, text, or email.
- Logging incidents, updating systems, and reporting lost mileage to management.
- Reviewing and implementing operational plans, procedures, and policies.
- Managing post-incident investigations, including CCTV, radio, and phone reviews.
- Conducting disciplinary hearings (up to Level 2).
- Providing daily reports, service updates, and detailed incident reports.
- Identifying trends affecting performance and service delivery.
- Monitoring and reporting network faults using Spotlight.
- Overseeing operational staff rosters in collaboration with the Crew Supervisors.
- Monitoring and managing the OHLE power supply via SCADA.
- Conducting drug & alcohol testing and fire evacuation drills.
- Leading performance reviews, 1-2-1 meetings, and information cascades.
In order to be successful in this role, it's essential that you have:
- Relevant light rail / rail transport industry experience in an operations department.
- Proven experience with incident management.
- Network operations and customer service experience.
- Experience in using Office 365 and Share Point on a regular basis.
- Excellent interpersonal skills alongside a strong attention to detail.
It would be great if you had:
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
- An ILM Level 3 – 5.
