Start Date: August / September 2025
Duration: Ongoing
Working Pattern: 3-Week Rotations (Week 1 – Mon-Fri / Week 2 – Mon- Fri / Week 3 – Mon-Thurs)
Rate: Β£13.17 – Β£18.19 Hourly Rate D.O.E PAYE
Clearance Required: Background Check
Eligibility: Candidates must be local to the Thurso area to be considered

Role Overview

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Operator Estates to join a dedicated team supporting operations on a nuclear site in Thurso. This is a physically demanding role requiring a high level of fitness, the ability to work in confined spaces and at height, and a strong commitment to health and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Operate a variety of vehicles and machinery including: gritter lorry (if HGV licensed), small gritter tractor, road sweeper, Whale gulley sucker, excavator, forklift (2.5 tonne), telescopic handler, MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform)
Perform manual and technical tasks such as: drain cleaning and milliscreen work (confined space), excavations using hand tools (pick, shovel, wheelbarrow), guano treatment and removal, gutter cleaning and working at height (harness work), lifting and slinging operations, use of vibrating hand tools (hammer drills, breakers, grinders)
Drive site vans and other vehicles as required
Wear and operate Alpha Solway masks and other PPE
Maintain readiness to evacuate criticality zones rapidly and unaided

Essential Requirements

Must be local to Thurso and able to commute daily
Must not exceed 120 kg due to vehicle seat weight limits
A normal level of physical fitness is required
Willingness to work in confined spaces and at height
Ability to operate or willingness to train on various machinery and tools
Strong understanding of health and safety procedures
Full UK driving licence

Desirable Qualifications

HGV licence
Confined space entry certification
Forklift and MEWP licenses
Experience in a nuclear or high-security environment

Working Conditions

Work is conducted indoors and outdoors year-round
Exposure to confined spaces, heights, and varied weather conditions
