Legal Cashier
Edinburgh

We are recruiting a Legal Cashier to join a well-established and respected law firmsbusy finance function in Edinburgh. This is a great opportunity to work within a professional services environment where compliance, accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
As part of the finance team, youll be responsible for a broad range of legal cashiering tasks, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately and in line with regulatory requirements. This varied role will see you working closely with colleagues across the business and dealing with both client and office account transactions.
Responsibilities:
– Allocating and processing receipts for client and office accounts
– Setting up and reviewing a range of payment types (CHAPS, BACS, Faster Payments, International)
– Ensuring Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements are met before processing transactions
– Managing accounting entries in the financial management system, including payments, transfers, bill reversals, and third-party cheques
– Opening, closing, and monitoring client designated bank accounts
– Reviewing and authorising cheque requests in line with internal policies
– Investigating and resolving discrepancies from daily bank reconciliations
– Returning unallocated funds in accordance with agreed procedures
– Liaising with partners, fee earners, and other staff regarding transactions
– Handling cheque and cash banking
– Running monthly and ad-hoc client account interest calculations
– Maintaining accurate electronic records for audit purposes
– Assisting with the annual audit process
– Contributing to team meetings and helping maintain up-to-date process documentation
About You:
– Previous legal finance experience, or strong cashiering/accounts background in a regulated sector
– Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all financial work
– Good working knowledge of finance systems and online banking platforms
– Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
– Knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland and/or SRA Accounts Rules (advantageous but not essential)
– A collaborative, professional approach with strong communication skills
