Role Overview
Supervise care and education for children aged 0‑5, support numeracy and language development through games and play, and ensure a safe and secure setting.
Wage
£11,778 for the first year, with potential increases depending on age.
Hours & Schedule
Shift pattern: Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am – 6:30 pm (30 hrs per week).
Variable shifts between 7:30 am and 6:30 pm, 51 weeks a year. Overtime is expected.
Duration
1 year 6 months.
Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do at Work
- Educating and caring for the children attending the setting.
- Planning and supervising activities while scaffolding learning during experiences such as arts and crafts, music, and mealtimes.
- Helping children develop communication and language skills.
- Feeding babies and ensuring their personal needs are met.
- Supporting purposeful observations and maintaining their learning journeys.
- Focusing on outside learning and exploration.
- Ensuring safeguarding and welfare of the children.
Training & Support
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You will study on the job, receive ongoing daily workplace training, and an assessor will be allocated to progress and support you through the course. Training will be part of the agreed working hours.
Early Years Educator Level 3 Standard Apprenticeship qualification. You will sit an exam and submit coursework at the end of your training.
Core training subjects:
- Safeguarding, Special Educational Needs, Paediatric First Aid, Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
- Application of legislation, policy, and procedures to protect the health, safety and well‑being of children.
- Risk assessment and risk management.
- Attachment theory and the development of effective relationships with children.
- Support for SEND and EAL needs, and promotion of inclusive learning.
- Planning and reflecting on holistic learning based on observation evidence.
Qualifications & Experience
- GCSE Maths and English (grade C/4 or above).
- BTEC Childcare/Early Years (grade Pass, Merit or Distinction).
- Optional: share other relevant qualifications and industry experience.
