Full-Time | Predominantly Office-Based with Flexible Home Working
Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Court and Locality Service. This is an opportunity to work in a supportive, well-established team where you’ll play a key role in progressing permanence plans and achieving better outcomes for children involved in court proceedings.
About the Role:
You’ll be responsible for children and families subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, pre-proceedings, and care proceedings. You’ll need to be confident in assessment, planning, and court work, with a strong focus on forming effective relationships with children and their families.
Key responsibilities:
Manage a caseload of CIN, CP, and court-involved cases
Complete high-quality assessments, care plans, and safety plans
Contribute to pre-proceedings work and represent the local authority in court
Build and sustain relationships with children and families to support change
Work within a team of Social Workers and Advanced Practitioners
Engage in regular supervision and multi-agency partnership work
Practice Model:
Manchester uses a relationship-based approach to social work, supported by strong management oversight, team cohesion, and a focus on reflective practice. The emphasis is on effective early intervention, timely decision-making, and putting children’s welfare at the centre of planning.
Requirements:
Social Work England registration
Proven experience in Child Protection and court work
Strong report writing and assessment skills
Ability to work confidently within statutory frameworks
Comfortable working primarily from the office with agreed home flexibility
