Job Description
A leading global payments and technology organisation that plays a central role in enabling secure, reliable and innovative digital commerce across markets worldwide is looking to hire a Interim Legal Counsel for a 9 – 12 month period.
The company operates one of the most advanced and trusted payment networks globally and is recognised for driving innovation in areas such as digital payments, tokenisation, data‑driven services and next‑generation commerce solutions.
The client would like a mid level lawyer (3-6PQE) to join the organisation’s Europe Product, IP & Services legal team. The role is based in the clients Europe Hub office in Paddington and works closely with the wider legal teams located across Europe. This is a broad, high‑impact role supporting cutting‑edge products, technology initiatives and strategic commercial agreements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide commercial/IP legal advice and support relating to matters such as strategic alliances, client agreements, technology licensing arrangements, pilot agreements, tokenisation, the development and implementation of new Products, creating templates and other general commercial matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial and licensing agreements
- Supporting the development and launch of new digital products and services within the payments industry.
- Identifying regulatory, competition and data protection considerations
- Partnering closely with business teams across European markets
- Managing day‑to‑day legal queries and contributing to team‑wide best practice and processes
The ideal candidate will bring:
- 3–6 PQE (E&W or other common‑law qualified)
- Knowledge of the fintech and payments industry (and applicable regulation).
- Strong commercial/tech/IP experience from a law firm or in‑house team
- Experience with cross‑border or multi‑jurisdictional matters
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset
- A genuine interest in fintech, payments and digital innovation
