Compliance and Risk Counsel – Professional Liability and Insurance
Permanent | Up to £110,000 | International Law Firm
Our client, a leading international law firm, is seeking a Compliance and Risk Counsel to join their well-established Risk Legal team. This is a permanent opportunity offering up to £110,000.
The Team
The firm’s Risk Legal team is made up of experienced lawyers and paralegals who advise on all aspects of legal risk, including financial crime compliance, claims, complaints, insurance, engagement terms, contracts, data privacy, regulatory compliance, conduct issues, and engagement with regulators.
This role will report directly to the Head of Professional Liability, who is responsible for managing the firm’s claims and complaints, as well as its professional indemnity and non-PI insurance cover.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Professional Liability with the reporting and management of claims
- Investigate and draft responses to client complaints
- Handle claims, including responding directly to straightforward matters or instructing external counsel on complex cases
- Maintain oversight of complaints and relevant deadlines
- Liaise with the Legal Ombudsman
- Assist with insurance notifications and renewals
- Support the General Counsel on internal and regulatory investigations
- Advise on contentious matters that may arise, including disputes with suppliers
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory obligations, including SRA Standards and Regulations
Skills & Experience
- Qualified lawyer with at least 5–7 years’ experience in civil/commercial litigation
- Ideally experienced in professional negligence work
- Experience with claims against solicitors and/or insurance coverage issues advantageous
- Background may come from private practice or in-house roles
- Previous experience working within a large City or international law firm desirable
