The Opportunity

As a Research Engineer within our Future Energy Systems team, you’ll be at the forefront of exploring new technologies and business models. You’ll work under the guidance of the Research and Development Lead of Zero Carbon Applications, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of international experts.

While you won’t have direct reports, you may mentor graduates, interns, and postgraduate students, supporting their development and contributing to a culture of learning and innovation.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the Zero Carbon Applications and Future Energy Systems teams to develop and deliver impactful research projects. Your work will support EDF’s strategic goals and contribute to the UK’s energy transformation.

You’ll manage a diverse portfolio of projects, engaging with internal and external stakeholders including our partners in France, UK academia, and industry. Your role will involve sourcing data, conducting analysis, and producing high-quality reports and presentations.

You’ll provide expert insights across all Zero Carbon Applications projects, ensuring knowledge transfer and coordination with EDF Group R&D. Your contributions will help identify technical innovations and market opportunities.

Who You Are

You’re an excellent communicator with strong organisational and interpersonal skills. You can convey complex technical and business insights to senior stakeholders across the UK and internationally.

You’re a natural leader and influencer, adaptable and skilled at building networks. Your innovative mindset and problem-solving abilities enable you to conduct novel research and drive progress.

Ideally, you have a background in engineering, science, economics, or business, with knowledge of the UK power sector and Zero Carbon technologies. French language skills and a strategic mindset are desirable. Above all, you’re committed to safety, sustainability, and making a positive impact.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
