M&J is seeking qualified Construction Inspectors (Level II & III) for a bridge reconstruction project located on Wallops Island, VA. The project consists of the design and replacement of the existing Wallops Island Causeway Bridge over Cat Creek which includes construction of a new 1,950-foot-long, 40-foot-wide concrete bridge on new foundations adjacent to the existing structure, constructing new bridge approaches, and demolishing the existing bridge.
Responsibilities
Depending on the Level (II or II) the responsibilities will include;• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of the project.• Determine the acceptability of the work performed by the contractor as per project plans and specification and industry standards.• Review and accept/reject daily reports submitted by the contractor.• Verify that procedures are in conformance with the approved Quality Control Plan.• Review material submittals and testing procedures and results for conformance.• Measure and record quantities of materials placed.• Perform takeoffs to determine conformance with required quantity amounts.• Assist with the finalization of quantities for the monthly progress estimate.• Maintain the daily project diary and complete Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDR).• Perform sampling and/or in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt concrete pavement.
Qualifications
• Extensive experience in bridge and highway construction, including traffic control, erosion control, precast segmental bridge erection, balanced cantilever construction, post-tensioning system installation, tendon grouting, and drilled shaft construction.• Quality assurance experience in casting segmental bridge sections.• Familiarity with FHWA and State bridge and highway construction standards and specifications.• Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control related certifications desired.• BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline or NICET Certification.• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Adobe.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.• Have valid driving license and reliable vehicle.• Availability to accommodate night or weekend work if necessary.
