Applications are invited from suitably committed and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientists to join our client\’s Transfusion and Haematology team on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.
Role Overview
This is a split role leading on the promotion of safe transfusion practice across the Island and working as part of the Transfusion and Haematology laboratory team. The role involves liaising with various staff groups in an investigative, advisory, and training capacity. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Blood Transfusion Committee, which sets and audits standards.
As part of a small team, responsibilities include practicing as a BMS in Haematology and Transfusion as required and participating in the on-call rota.
Technical Platforms
The Transfusion Department uses:
- IH-1000 Biorad grouping analyser
- Mirasol pathogen reduction system
The Haematology Department uses:
- NEXUS DF and DX
- Werfen TOP 350
- Ves-Matic 30 ESR processor
Salary and Benefits
Guernsey has adopted the AfC banding system but applies its own salary scale. The current Band 7 salary range is up to £73,085 plus an annual bonus of £1,605 and higher unsocial hours enhancements (36% evening/Saturday and 72% Sunday/Bank Holiday). Annual leave ranges from 36 to 42 days, with full credit for NHS service for both annual and sick leave.

Person Requirements
- Biomedical Scientist with full HCPC registration
- Completion of a recognised postgraduate BBTS qualification
- Current or recent UK experience at NHS Band 6 or 7 level (or equivalent in the independent sector) with comprehensive Transfusion and Haematology skills
- Proficient in training and supervising junior staff within IBMS guidelines
- Ability to work independently or as part of a small team
