Job Overview

The Director, Marine & Technical Projects, will oversee Disney Cruise Line's shipbuilding scope, focusing on naval architecture, systems engineering, and developing high-performance ships. The role involves strategic development of new technologies, fuels, energy and emissions optimization, and ensuring safe, responsible operations to meet business and regulatory standards.

This position manages technical development across the ship's lifecycle, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance, from design to handover into operations. It serves as the primary contact for Walt Disney Imagineering Project Teams, aligning technical efforts across all stakeholders.

This leadership role requires collaboration with WDI & DCL leadership, shipyards, consultants, and suppliers. It is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the VP of Newbuild & Dry Docks, based in London, with four days onsite.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead long-term marine & technical project development, ensuring project scope, quality, and budget adherence.
  • Act as the key DCL contact and decision-maker for newbuild programs.
  • Validate and approve project estimates and manage budgets.
  • Collaborate with project teams during build phases, ensuring technical specifications and approvals are met.
  • Oversee ship technical design, including propulsion, navigation, safety, HVAC, electrical, waste management, and automation systems.
  • Coordinate reviews, inspections, and testing phases with stakeholders.
  • Manage the ship's maintenance and procurement data systems.
  • Assist in operational readiness and handover preparations.
  • Support warranty processes and post-delivery projects.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Extensive marine technical engineering experience, including operational leadership onboard.
  • Shipyard construction and new build project experience, preferably in the cruise industry.
  • Strong project management skills in fast-paced, multi-site environments.
  • Deep knowledge of marine safety standards and regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, IMO, ISM).
  • Expertise in shipbuilding processes, design, specification, and commissioning.
  • Ability to communicate operational needs effectively.
  • Leadership skills, strategic thinking, and ability to motivate teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and persuasive communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work on construction sites.

Qualifications:

  • BSc/BEng in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering
  • Experience with cruise ship platform design and on-site commissioning preferred.
