Overview

Lead the way in sustainable transport and join AECOM as a Principal Highways & Traffic Engineer in Manchester. We are looking for experience in leading the delivery of a broad range of traffic and highway engineering projects and for involvement in work-winning activities. The successful candidate will help develop impactful design solutions and deliver high levels of service to grow our Manchester and Northern Streets business by enhancing existing client relationships and developing new ones.

The Streets team provides feasibility, concept, preliminary and detailed design, community engagement, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of multi-discipline transportation and urban realm projects. You will join a strong team recognised as market leaders in transportation, including active travel, public transport, bus priority and general traffic engineering. We are an approachable, collaborative team that values working with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

The role suits a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career. In addition to delivering work within the local office, the role involves working with other AECOM teams across the northern region and wider UK & Ireland business, with potential for international work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver a portfolio of traffic engineering projects, particularly sustainable infrastructure and roads/traffic projects, ensuring technical content and quality align with the project brief. After accreditation on AECOM’s project management system, act as Project Director/Project Manager including monitoring financial performance and KPIs. Comprehensive training on the project management system will be provided.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, identify commercial opportunities, and develop strategies to exploit them.
  • Lead or contribute to detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals; collaborate on marketing and business development objectives regionally and nationally.
  • Manage and lead a team with strong leadership, develop and maintain a motivated project delivery team, support career progression, and ensure team skills remain current with best practice and innovation.
  • Establish strong working relationships with other internal teams across AECOM’s business lines.
  • Demonstrate AECOM values and behaviours and thrive on increased responsibility.

Technical Expertise

You will demonstrate high levels of technical experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Traffic engineering design
  • Cycling and walking design
  • Bus priority and BRT
  • Road safety audits
  • Detailed design and site experience of road schemes

Qualifications

You will have a relevant degree and will either have or be working towards Chartered status along with membership of a professional institution.
