Senate House Library is the central library for the University of London and the home library for the School of Advanced Study. We offer access and research support to collections covering Arts, Humanities and Social Science and are home to many unique and distinctive Special Collections in the heart of London’s student and research community.

As part of Senate House Library’s Library Transformation Project, the Library is creating a roving archivist post to provide practical support and professional guidance to federal member libraries of the University of London which hold archival material but do not have a professional archivist. The postholder will be expected to spend much of their time on placements of around four months at federal member libraries working with local collections staff. Line management of the post will be by the Senate House Library Senior Archivist but objectives at placements will be agreed with local staff.

Following their appointment and between placements the post holder will be based at Senate House Library to ensure that they are supported by and embedded within the SHL archives team.

The University will be unable to sponsor candidates for a visa for this role. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK for the duration of their employment.

Due to the nature of the work, there may be some limited scope for remote working, but the standard requirement will be for the post-holder to be working onsite at several different University of London libraries, including Senate House Library, the Royal Academy of Music, the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Veterinary College. If you have any further questions and / or would like an informal chat about the role, please contact Clare George on [email protected] or 0207 862 8961.

The role is envisaged as a full-time fixed term post for 2 years., www.london.ac.uk
