Waites Recruitment Consultancy are seeking Junior Estimator who is eager to learn and develop his/her skills and grow within a business. My client is based in Kent (Wrotham) and this role is a full time position, this is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to develop and build a career path. Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (3 days office-based, 2 days site-based) Job Purpose To support the estimating and pre-construction team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for flooring and surface preparation projects. The Junior Estimator will assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and site conditions and play a key role in ensuring timely and well-documented tenders. This role provides an excellent development opportunity for someone looking to build a career in construction estimating and project costing. Core Responsibilities Assist in the preparation of detailed cost estimates and quotations for commercial and industrial flooring projects. Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand the scope and requirements. Conduct take-offs and measurements from drawings to quantify labour, material, and equipment needs. Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain current and competitive pricing. Help maintain and update the internal estimating database and historical cost records. Support site visits and surveys with senior team members to gather information for accurate pricing. Monitor and track live tender opportunities using platforms such as Barbour ABI, Glenigans and Protel Projects. Collaborate with project managers and contracts teams to hand over successful tenders with all supporting documentation. Assist with preparing client-facing documents, including method statements and basic project schedules. Provide general administrative support to the estimating and commercial teams as required. Key Skills & Experience Basic understanding of construction processes and terminology (experience in flooring or finishes is advantageous). Strong numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiarity with estimating software is beneficial. Good verbal and written communication skills. Organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. A proactive approach to learning, with a genuine interest in construction cost management. Full UK driving licence preferred (for occasional site visits) Development & Training The successful candidate will receive ongoing mentoring from experienced estimators and project managers, with opportunities to develop knowledge in cost planning, project delivery, and client communication. This role offers a clear progression path to more senior commercial positions within the company. Additional Information The role may require travel to project sites across the UK, with occasional overnight stays.
