Job Description
Estimator Job in Ringwood
We are proud to be working with an established building services company who are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Services Estimator to join their growing team. The successful Estimator candidate will prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical services projects, ranging from £75,000 to £2M in value alongside their experienced estimating team. At this stage, they are flexible on the level of experience, and they offer a comprehensive and structured training plan to further develop the necessary skills to build a successful career in design & build estimating.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Estimating and Costing
- Analyse project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labour estimates.
- Undertake material take-offs and labour assessments based on surveys, mechanical plans and specifications.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to determine project costs.
- Include indirect costs such as preliminaries, supervision, plant, and equipment.
- Ensure estimates are prepared in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.
Tendering
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely quotations and tender submissions.
- Review and interpret scope of works, contract terms, and tender documentation.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal teams during the bidding process.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits to assess project requirements and conditions.
Project Handover
- Facilitate a smooth handover to the project delivery team post-award.
- Provide input on budgets, timescales, and technical matters during project mobilisation.
- Participate in post-tender reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future estimates.
Cost Control & Value Engineering
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide value engineering suggestions where appropriate.
- Work with design and project teams to optimise solutions during the estimation phase.
Minimum Skills and Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical services estimating
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and estimating software packages
- Client delivery/satisfaction focused
- High level of attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure
Desirable
- Experience with design-and-build projects and knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Work.
