Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technician services ( We are currently looking for an SEM/SCL Shift Engineer to join our team in Toronto, Canada.
– Project: subway/tunnel project

– In general, when the project ends, we try to place the candidate in other projects to give him/her continuity.

– Conduct daily HSE inspections, documenting findings, and taking corrective action as necessary. Exercise authority to halt work immediately if safety, quality, or environmental standards are compromised, and report to the manager promptly.
Prepare and deliver task-specific safety briefings, method statements, and risk assessments. Participate actively in daily and shift briefings to align team goals with safety protocols.
Prepare comprehensive documentation for all construction stages (e.g., excavation, temporary supports, reinforcement, pre- and post-pour checks).
Ensure adherence to Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and relevant checklists during construction. Manage the procurement of necessary materials and equipment, including shotcrete, hauling trucks, reinforcement, and concrete.
Maintain detailed records of all resources used, ensuring alignment with project specifications and budgets.
Submit resource logs for additional works within 24 hours of completion.
Assist in preparing “look-ahead” programmes to align site activities with project milestones.
Supervise and ensure work is executed per HSE, quality, and design requirements.
Collaborate with foremen, superintendents, and other team members to meet construction targets. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including site management, engineers, commercial teams, planners, suppliers, and client representatives.
Ensure work records meet project documentation requirements and retain proofs of compliance. Undertake any additional duties as assigned to support project and team success.

– A minimum of 4 years of experience as a SEM Engineer in tunnel/railway/heavy civil construction projects or similar.
A bachelor’s degree or studies in Civil Engineering/Geological/ Geotechnical or similar.

– Working Hours: Monday to Friday: 12 hours rotational shifts (days and nights shifts)

– 22 working days of vacation per year + project observed holidays.
