About the role

About the role;

Balfour Beatty has a leading role in delivering the Lower Thames Crossing -one of the UK\’s most significant infrastructure projects. As part of our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, we are delivering critical electrical infrastructure that will help shape the future of transport and connectivity in the UK.

We are now recruiting a talented Construction Manager to prepare for and lead the on-site delivery of works, ensuring safe, sustainable, and high-quality construction execution, aligned with programme and cost targets.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work with BBMU teams, enabling works, main works civils and SUs to determine correct build sequences and constraints.
  • Lead the teams managing the procurement of the works delivery
  • Plan, manage, and deliver site-based construction activities in line with project objectives.
  • Ensure construction works are delivered safely, sustainably, and to programme, cost, and quality .
  • Lead the development and maintenance of systems, teams, and resources required for successful delivery.
  • Create an environment where the construction team can thrive, collaborate, and succeed .
  • Manage client and stakeholder relationships effectively to ensure clear communication and alignment.
  • Review and monitor construction performance, implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Inspire and provide clear leadership to a multi-disciplinary team , focused on shared goals.
  • Make informed decisions balancing time, cost, quality, risk, and scope to meet project requirements.

What you\’ll be doing

  • Hold periodic project reviews (PRM) and update the Digital Briefcase in
    accordance with GBL
  • Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries
    etc.)
  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Comprehensive Knowledge of discipline
  • Aptitude and ability to understand technical answers / explanations
  • Knowledge and experience of discipline
  • Implement technical information and drawings into delivery
  • Understand and specify plant and equipment requirements
  • Numerical skills
  • Complete buildability assessments from first-hand experience
  • Initiates good scope/information/configuration management principles
  • Ensure reports provide relevant information which enable decisions to be
    made which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall strategy
  • Ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in coordinated
    working

  • Managing development of Quality procedures, ITPs, checksheets in line with client, BB and SU requirements

  • Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans (OBS) and raise appropriate requests

    internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the
    team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and
    performance management.
  • Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and
    progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that
    contractual arrangements are achieved
  • Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans,
    such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled
    deadlines
  • Develop, implement, review and periodically update resource loaded
    schedules
  • Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly
    meeting
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and
    customer expectations
  • Establish robust change control process
  • Knowledge of commercial impact

  • Quantifying materials needed

  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current driving licence

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
