The Role
Undertake all aspects of design for new and existing equipment.
Initial phases: Conceptual engineering, benchmarking and other marketing analysis, range/config planning, SWOT analysis etc.
Detailed design: drawings, FEAs, detailed calculations, BOMs, product costing, DFMEA, standards compliance, documentation creation, liaising with suppliers.
Prototype build and test: Liaise with manufacturing and assembly teams, record notes on improvements, help control and undertake testing of the product.
Product release: Updates to the design, costing, DFMEA and other documentation before release.
Record design intent, activities, verification and validation throughout the process including design reports, analysis, test results and conclusions etc.
Engineering changes shall be properly recorded in detail and communicated to relevant parties.
Collaborate with other members of the wider team to ensure business needs are met.
Undertake detailed research into a range of technical subjects such as tribology, surface finishes, bearing designs, sealing technology, manufacturing methods, materials, hardening processes etc.
Test new components and duty points to establish trends in the physical behaviour of the equipment including performance and life. Gain insights to the physical phenomena that result in the trends found. Use these insights to design better performing products and components.
Definition and control of product revisions at the component and assembly level. Control and implementation of engineering change requests. Depending on disposition these changes can be implemented immediately as a minor revision or saved for a major revision. Interchangeability and stock updates shall be considered within this process. Detailed release notes shall be kept for each version.
Undertake improvement initiatives for existing products (major revisions) to improve performance, manufacturability, cost etc.
Definition and control of product configuration including compatibility of configurations.
The Candidate
Minimum 10 years\’ design experience.
Engineering qualifications, degree prefered.
Knowledge of fabrication or metal manufacturing.
FEA analysis experience is highly beneficial.
The Package
Offering from 50,000 to 60,000 dependant on skills and experience.
