Their core competencies encompass advanced antenna systems, microwave and radio frequency technologies and electronic warfare capabilities.
The UK company has 3 autonomous business units, all of which have their own engineering, operations and sales teams. Driven by innovation, they deliver bespoke solutions tailored to the demanding requirements of its international clientele.
The role – Head of Engineering (Avionics)
The Head of Engineering is ultimately responsible for the delivery of a significant portfolio of avionics products across all stages of the development life cycle.
Leading a team of c. 35 technically excellent engineers (predominantly focussed on R&D of new products), the Head of Engineering will encourage a culture of “intellectual curiosity” and a sense of “ownership”. Building a team for success now and also readying it for a significant ramp up in operations, through upskilling and continuous improvement of people and processes.
Put simply, the key aspects of the role are people leader; planner; problem-solver; technical expert and big decision maker.
Ideal professional profile
Our client wishes to appoint the best possible person – this will be determined by their leadership and organisational skills, plus their commerciality. The company knows the best experienced engineer may need to come from a sector other than aerospace.
The new Head of Engineering will be:
• A commercially savvy, ambitious, collaborative, team player
• A natural problem solver, proven operations leader and excellent planner
• A very strong communicator to people at all levels of the company, and with key clients
• Possess or able to attain security clearance, willing to travel internationally (maybe 6 trips per year)
Remuneration
Basic salary from ÂŁ100,000 (potentially more with exceptional experience) + ÂŁ7,700 car allowance + bonus + benefits
The role is based at Head office in Buckinghamshire and the new Head of Engineering will be expected to be on site a minimum of 4 days per week – 5 days is preferred. Some international travel will be required to meet with clients (predominantly in the US).
