As MWH Treatment’s service to its client, Thames Water, continues to flourish into AMP8, we are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Based in the Thames Water region (Maple Lodge office), you will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Mechanical).

Our challenging programme of work, across a variety of water and wastewater schemes is expected to be in the region of £400M.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Report to Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, Regional Discipline Lead and Engineering Manager.
  • Produce complex design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
  • Production and Checking of all design deliverables including Specifications, Schedules, Drawings and Calculations.
  • Working alongside other disciplines for the development of site/plant 3D model.
  • Ensure that standard designs & practices are utilised wherever possible.
  • Delivering the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
  • Coordinating design outputs across all technical disciplines.
  • Maintain competitiveness.
  • Provide estimates and feedback for Proposals department.
  • Establish working relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
  • Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
  • Assist in developing procedures and processes.
  • Monitor and review the procedures and processes.
  • Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
  • Ensure co-ordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external to MWHT in order to ensure that the design processes carried out on the contract are co-ordinated for the benefit of the contract as a whole.
  • Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
  • Assure customer satisfaction.
  • Chairing of Operability and Maintenance workshops alongside with the Client, to review the solution to ensure that adequate measures are in place in respect of the operability and maintainability of the proposed design solution.
  • To work within a culture where satisfying the customer is recognised as the key to achieving other objectives, and that customers include everyone receiving benefit from our processes, whether end users or other departments within the company.
  • Maintain a personal development plan.
  • Assist in supervising and developing staff.
  • Assist in ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Reduce waste to a minimum from all departmental activities.
  • Ensure designs take account of environmental issues.
  • Ensure that design takes full regard of all CDM 2015 Regulations and health and safety requirements.

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience and strong knowledge of engineering principles including structures, materials, hydraulics and environmental engineering.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
  • Have experience of managing members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
  • Membership of a professional institution / chartered.
  • Relevant discipline Engineering degree.
  • Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
  • Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management.
  • Strong knowledge of roles and responsibility under CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.), HSE regulatory requirements (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR, etc.), The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 (Reg31), Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), etc.
  • A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Driving license.
