You'll be a key part of one of the UK's biggest and most high-profile digital transformation programs, a once-in-a-generation reform of government products and services.
You'll keep pace with the introduction of relevant agile/lean tools and techniques and remove obstacles and blockers that might hinder delivery. DevOps is a culture, approach, and set of practices that apply lean process improvement and automation to enable a flow of working software to its real users. This means looking across organizational functions of Development and Operations that might previously have operated as separate silos.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop high quality and maintainable code with automation first approach.
- Provide in-depth insight into DevOps issues and strong technical experience.
- Maintain an open-minded attitude and ability to rapidly adapt and learn in line with DevOps culture.
- Facilitate workshops, meetings with a variety of stakeholders, show and tell, and drive outcomes.
- Manage technology change, issues, and escalations (external and internal), taking responsibility by owning them until they are mitigated or resolved.
- Lead by example, acting as a servant-leader, demonstrating the right behaviours, dealing with conflict, and helping establish a team culture that allows for constructive criticism.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience with a broad range of AWS technologies (eg, EC2, RDS, ELB, EBS, EFS, S3, VPC, Glacier, IAM, CloudWatch, KMS) to develop and maintain an AWS-based cloud solution, with an emphasis on best practice cloud security.
- Expertise in provisioning infrastructure using Terraform and VMs with tools such as Vagrant.
- Solid experience as a DevOps Engineer in a 24×7 uptime AWS environment, including automation experience with configuration management tools.
- Strong Scripting skills (eg, Shell, Python, PowerShell, Perl, JAVA) and automation skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Jenkins and pipeline using Groovy script.
- Experience with Docker containers and Amazon Linux 2023 AMI.
- Experience with system monitoring tools (eg, Grafana, Alert Manager, Prometheus, and Node exporter).
- Ability to analyse and resolve complex infrastructure resource and application deployment issues.
- Experience with Git, Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow for incident and change management.
- Knowledge of Windows System Update Service and DFS Replication.
- Experience with Windows Group Policy Objects and access/permissions control via GPO.
- Experience in automating and codifying the installation of software packages.
- Nexus security scanning and antivirus experience with ClamAV and MS defender.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Linux system administration experience, including building, hardening, and managing Linux operating systems.
- MS Active Directory configuration and management.
- Firewall and switch configuration and patch management.
- Understanding of network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP).
- Hands-on DevOps delivery experience working on digital or technology projects at a leading consultancy, agency, or government organization.
- AWS or Azure certification, or willingness to attain the certification.
- Self-starter, comfortable working in both process-driven and ambiguous environments.
- Experience and passion for working within Central Government and other sectors.
- Proven capability of working successfully with senior client stakeholders and end-users, quickly building successful relationships, and establishing credibility.
- Passion for digital and technology, with the drive and determination to continually learn new things and develop yourself and others.
- Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work independently in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
