Job Description
Investment Risk Director
Based: Edinburgh or Glasgow
The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an experienced Investment Risk Director to play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing investment risks across the Bank’s portfolio. As part of the Governance, Legal, Risk & Compliance (GLRC) function and operating as part of the Bank’s Second Line of Defence, you will provide independent and robust risk assessments of both potential and existing investments. Working collaboratively with colleagues in Investments, Portfolio Management, and across the Bank, you will deliver effective challenge to ensure sound risk management in decision-making and portfolio oversight.

About You
· A senior risk professional with significant experience in investment risk or credit risk within a regulated financial services environment.
· Proven background in risk management across private equity, venture capital, private debt, project finance or commercial lending.
· Expertise in modelling and assessing all aspects of investment risks for equity, debt, and fund investments.
· Skilled in corporate credit analysis, equity and debt structuring, and distressed investment recovery.
· Adept at analysing complex information, exercising sound judgement, and communicating risk insights clearly.
· Knowledge of UK financial regulatory requirements and challenges of operating at the public-private sector interface along with sound knowledge of UK & EU UK subsidy control regulations is desirable.
· Professional qualifications such as FRM, CFA or similar are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver independent assessment and challenge of potential and existing investments, ensuring risks are correctly identified, assessed, and managed.
· Present independent risk views and recommendations to Investment Committees and other key stakeholders.
· Contribute to the development and enhancement of investment risk policies, frameworks, and processes.
· Implement and oversee credit and equity risk modelling, reporting, and monitoring processes.
· Provide high-impact data and risk insights to inform decision-making.
· Conduct thematic risk reviews and provide subject matter expertise across the Bank’s investment activity.
· Act as a mentor and provide technical training to colleagues, deputising for the Head of Investment Risk when required.
