About The Job

Salary: £25,185 – £25,583 a year

Hours per week: 20

Contract type: Permanent

As a Home Carer, you will provide high‑quality, person‑centred care to support people to live safely and independently in their own homes. Working in line with individual care plans, you will assist customers with daily living activities including personal care, washing, dressing, meal preparation, medication support and light domestic tasks such as laundry.

You will encourage and support customers to maximise their independence, including the safe use of specialist equipment where appropriate. Building positive, respectful relationships, you will support individuals to maintain social contacts, cope with loss, and access community services that meet their cultural, spiritual and personal needs.

Accurate record keeping is a key part of the role. You will contribute to updating care plans, completing required documentation, and maintaining confidentiality at all times. You will be expected to observe, monitor and report any changes in a customer’s condition or circumstances promptly to the Team Leader or Manager, ensuring actions are taken in line with policies, procedures and safeguarding responsibilities.

The role requires a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring services are delivered fairly and equitably to all customers. You will comply with local policies, national standards, and health and safety requirements, and actively participate in training, supervision and appraisal to continuously improve both personal practice and service delivery.

This role does not attract sponsorship.

About You

You will have some experience of working in a care role and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a supportive team. You are organised and able to prioritise your workload to ensure tasks are completed to the required standards while maintaining a person‑centred approach.

You are committed to supporting people to maintain their independence and dignity, and you are able to build positive, professional relationships with customers, their families and carers, colleagues, and a range of health and social care professionals.

You are able to accurately obtain, read, complete and maintain written records and forms, demonstrating a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality at all times. You have an understanding of equality and diversity issues and are able to apply equalities best practice in all aspects of your work, recognising the impact discrimination can have on service users and service delivery.

You will demonstrate an awareness of the needs of people within adult social care and show a willingness to develop your skills and knowledge. You will hold a QCF Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care (or an equivalent), or be willing and able to achieve this within 12 months of appointment.

You are physically able to undertake manual handling tasks safely, able to travel across the borough, and flexible in your approach to work, including working changing rotas, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.

Application Process

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.

On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
