An opportunity has arisen to provide expert dietetic advice, training, professional development, and quality assurance to community-based staff and initiatives, within a team with excellent administrative and supervisory support.

The Band 6 Specialist Public Health Dietetic post is part of the national network of Public Health Dietitians in Wales. It involves implementing and evaluating the Nutrition Skills for LifeTM programmes within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board area.

Based in the community, you will serve as a central resource for quality and consistency in food and nutrition advice, skills, and expertise, to promote access to a well-balanced diet and healthy lifestyle choices.

This role involves working with groups to transfer evidence-based food and nutrition information for practical and sustainable changes. It emphasizes supporting and developing others to provide optimal services within their communities, leveraging existing assets.

The service covers the entire Cwm Taf Morgannwg area, so travel is essential.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Working autonomously, prioritizing your workload, balancing service user and professional demands, and meeting deadlines.
  2. Designing and delivering training on behavior change and food-related nutrition topics.
  3. Planning and organizing Level 1 Nutrition Skills for LifeTM programmes and community initiatives, ensuring information accuracy, evidence base, and quality assurance.
  4. Understanding motivational principles and barriers related to change management, gaining cooperation, and demonstrating empathy.
  5. Serving as a specialist resource for community-based and weight management services, providing advice, support, and training to service users and healthcare professionals.

This position is advertised as Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or B1 Level for adult Welsh learners). It requires the ability to hold simple conversations with patients, not fluency or report-writing skills.
